TRANSGENDER RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS!

International Transgender Day of Visibility is Monday, March 31. GLAAD reports "Each year on March 31, the world observes Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) to raise awareness about transgender people. It is a day to celebrate the lives and contributions of trans people, while also drawing attention to the poverty, discrimination, and violence the community faces." This year, perhaps more than ever, it is important to reaffirm that Transgender Rights are Human Rights!

AAUW advocates freedom in definition of self and family, including protection from discrimination and a guarantee of civil rights for all family structures, and vigorous enforcement of and full access to civil and constitutional rights. You can read AAUW's position statement on LGBTQ+ Rights HERE.

There are a number of different resources and organizations that provide support and information for transgender individuals and their families, friends, and allies. AAUW's DEI Toolkit: Gender and Gender Identity is a good place to start. Check it out!
